This article inspired us at im4u.world. It is entitled, “Victor Moore Foundation launches, to cater for underprivileged children in Nigeria'' dated July 25, 2021 from The Guardian newspaper.
The founder, Besidonne Moore, named the foundation in honor of her late father, a man whose passion was education and he pushed his children to become well-rounded through education. The mission of the foundation is to provide underprivileged Nigerians with educational support and skills.
The foundation formed a partnership with two schools and provided tuition, writing materials, uniforms, and digital literacy for the students. In the future, the foundation also plans to provide mentorship for children, professional development for teachers, a skills hub, and parenting skills.
Not everyone has equal access or opportunity for an education around the world. Yet research clearly documents that educational attainment benefits both the individual and society in many different ways.
What can we all do locally to make a difference in educational attainment and achievement with our hometown youth? Book clubs, community center homework assistance programs, community-based music programs or computer programs, after school art programs, or a series that lasts the school semester and offers something different each week, the possibilities are limited only by the imagination. Anything that stimulates the joy of learning and creative expression helps. Many retired senior citizens in the community have the capacity and a lifetime of wisdom to share with students. Perhaps local college and high school students can mentor children and earn credit. And, of course, local people in your hometown could be good volunteers to help out. There is an indescribable joy in helping a young person discover. The benefits are mutual, both for the student and the volunteer. How can you engage youth in your community and stimulate a love of learning?
