Dieynaba Sidibé, famously known as Zeinixx, is a trailblazing Senegalese graffiti artist transforming her community through her captivating art. As one of the few women in the male-dominated street art scene, Zeinixx uses her vibrant murals across Dakar to champion women's rights and address pressing social issues.
From a tender age, Sidibé harbored a deep passion for painting, dreaming of becoming an artist despite her mother's hopes for her to pursue a medical career. Her fascination with graffiti began after watching it on television, leading her to join Senegal's graffiti community and refine her skills under the mentorship of artist Graffixx.
Zeinixx's graffiti is a powerful voice for women's causes. In 2017, she painted a striking mural for breast cancer awareness outside the Senegalese League against Cancer headquarters. She has also actively participated in the UN’s 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence and has raised awareness about traffic accidents through her art.
Her murals adorn prominent locations in Dakar, such as the Blaise Senghor Cultural Centre and the US Embassy. Beyond her advocacy work, Sidibé founded Zeinixx Entertainment, organizing visual arts workshops to inspire the next generation of artists. Additionally, she is a talented slam poet and rapper, performing in both Wolof and French and serves as the communication head at the Africulturban association.
In recognition of her impactful work, Sidibé was awarded the "Award Makers Muse! Kindle Project’s 2020." Through her multifaceted art, Zeinixx continues to break barriers and drive social change, leaving an indelible mark on her community.
Here are 10 practical and simple ways you can adopt in your community that can bring about change inspired by Dieynaba Sidibé's impact:
