Please consider visiting Authors for Ukraine Charity Auction to find out how you can help. See the link below.

The Daily Gazette, a newspaper in Schenectady, New York, United States, describes an organization called "Authors for Ukraine." The article, dated March 26, 2022, entitled, "Halfmoon Author Launches 'Authors for Ukraine' Fundraiser," describes how Amy Patricia Meade, the author of "Halfmoon," wanted to help Ukrainian refugees, was unable to find the appropriate venue.

Meade turned to social media. She asked her fellow authors and readers if they would be interested in raising funds for Ukraine with an online silent auction of signed and dedicated books. Meade had participated in a similar endeavor five years ago in the United Kingdom. Meade expected to hear from her closest author friends and raise about $500. However, in just a few days, the word spread. Now 170 authors have volunteered to help with the auction and donated 250 items. Most of the authors are from the United States, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand. Most of the novels will be signed and dedicated. In addition, several authors donated collectible first edition novels for auction.

The online auction runs from Tuesday, March 29, 2022, to April 12, 2022, and the link to the auction is 32auctions.com/AuthorsforUkraine. The proceeds from the auction will go to the Ukraine Crisis Fund. This fund, operated by CARE (Cooperative for American Remittances to Europe), provides food, water, hygiene kits, psychosocial support, and cash assistance to Ukrainian refugees, especially women, families, and the elderly.

This auction is for a global cause but did you know anyone can use 32auctions.com for local community causes as well. This auction began with one person reaching out to her friends on social media, and it grew into something much bigger.

What kind of fundraising auction would you organize to help your community? Something to support a local charity, perhaps an inner-city school, fix up a park, or raise money to help refugees coming to your hometown? What could you sell as part of the auction? Local authors could donate books, but local artists could also contribute paintings, prints, sculptures, and other works of art. Perhaps your auction could feature goods created by local artisans, such as candles, wine, or cheese. How about including local service providers who could auction off their services to the highest bidder, such as contractors, painters, interior designers, massage therapists, or landscapers. The possibilities are endless.

There isn't any money to meet a need is a common complaint in local communities. We often expect and rely on others, such as local governments, to address an issue, and that could take years, it at all. You have a tool here that can make a difference today.
