Jose Andres, Founder of the non-profit organization, World Central Kitchen, “World Central Kitchen started with a simple idea at home with my wife Patricia: when people are hungry, send in cooks. Not tomorrow, today.”

That was in 2010, the year Haiti was rocked by a destructive earthquake. And that’s the humble beginnings of World Central Kitchen (WCK).

“You see, food relief is not just a meal that keeps hunger away. It’s a plate of hope. It tells you in your darkest hour that someone, somewhere, cares about you.” Jose Andres, Founder, WCK.

Twelve years later, WCK has prepared and served over 70 million meals in response to disaster and human suffering. WCK locally sources the ingredients and hires local people, wherever possible, to prepare and serve the food. This approach not only feeds people who may have no food but builds hope and helps people get back on their feet. It is an organization of action.

WCK is first to the frontlines, providing meals in response to humanitarian, climate, and community crises. We build resilient food systems with locally led solutions. -WCK website

World Central Kitchen was in Puerto Rico when Hurricane Maria devastated the island. They were in Australia in the worst of the bushfires and in Lebanon when a bomb blast destroyed parts of Beirut, among many places worldwide.

Today, WCK is working in Ukraine and has served over 12 million people in 8 countries affected by the war. You can help support WCK locally and help people in need. Consider fundraisers with your local restaurants and chefs, local schools, community organizations, places of worship and workplaces. Charity Navigator scores World Central Kitchen 100 out of 100 for its Financial records and Accountability and Transparency giving this non-profit a perfect 4-star rating. You can give with confidence knowing your money will be used wisely and well.
